Changes and Adjustments Part 2

Changes are a part of life. I am learning that just about the time I think I have something set the best way I can imagine, something comes along that forces a change. Whether it's a physical, tangible reason to change or just that tugging at my heart telling me a change is needed. I sometimes really want to fight the latter - ignoring or dismissing those persistent thoughts. But what I really need to do is pray. Find out whether it is God leading me in another direction or not. And follow Him! Whether a big decision or a smaller one, sometimes it's just not easy to change. And leaning on God is the only way this stubborn girl can manage.

Another change we recently made is with our spelling program. My Little Buddy was using Spelling Power this year. It's a nice program with some great ideas, but it just didn't click for us. It was hard for me to forgo the money I spent on that and spend more money on another program mid-year. But we finally hit a wall and I

Changes and Adjustments Part 1

I am a planner.  I love to make plans.  I work out the details and the timing.  I write them out and make them all pretty, etc.  But not too long ago I realized that the planning I was doing for our homeschooling seemed off somehow.  I loved filling in my little planning boxes.  I would open my planning folder while we were doing school

Menu Plan for March

I am so late getting this out, but here it is anyway.  This month is scheduled to run from March 4 - 31.  So we've already completed the first week and are on to week 2.

I've also decided to alternate our taco/nacho night with pizza, just to mix things up a bit so as to not get too tired of our favorite - tacos!  But we're still keeping it simple and easy for our busy day.

Having a menu plan has been so helpful for me.  Yes, it takes a little work to get it set for the month,

Book Report

My Little Buddy was due to write a book report this week.  The example in the book seemed boring to me, so I scoured the web looking for other ideas.  But alas, I ended up making up my own.  So, I thought I would share it with all of you!

The book he read was Secret in the Maple Tree by Matilda Nordtvedt.  It was a charming little book that he and I both enjoyed reading together each day.  I can't wait to see how he fills out his book report on it.  Reading with him has become such a treasured time of the day for me.  And it's the one subject that he never puts off; he's always eager to get started on the next chapter.  We even finished this book a few days early, because I couldn't resist his plea to just read the last 3 chapters all at once.  I love to watch his passion for reading grow!

Cabbage Rolls Recipe

Today I made one of my favorite childhood dinners.  I have so many memories of my Grandma making this.  We called it Cabbage Rolls.  And it's really simple with only a few ingredients, so I thought I would share it with you while it's simmering on the stove top.

Ingredients:
1 head of cabbage
1 lb. ground beef or ground turkey (I use ground turkey)
1 cup of minute rice
salt and pepper
minced onion
1 can tomato sauce

Boil a large pot of water.  With a sharp knife carefully core the head of cabbage.  Once the pot is to a boil add the cabbage.  You could be smart and make sure the cabbage will fit into the pot of water before you boil it, or like me . . . you can splash boiling water all over your stove because you had too much water in the pot - either way it's your preference - lol.  Cover, remove from heat and let set 2-3 minutes.
