Organization 2012 - Laundry Room Redo

We recently made some adjustments in our laundry room.  Of course, I forgot to take any before pics, and these were the best I could find.   You'll have to look beyond my cuties to see the sad state of my laundry room prior to our fix up.

Basically, we had a standard wire shelf that ran across the back wall of the laundry room above the washer and dryer.  Not the most ideal set-up.  I would attempt to hang-dry items from the edge of the shelf, as you can see in the pics, but there just wasn't enough room for anything larger than the children's clothes.

With a quick trip to Home Depot - oh, who am I kidding . . . that's almost like saying I can take a quick trip to the Teacher's store.  Anyway, a small purchase of some closet shelf accessories (less that $30, if I remember correctly).  I found that we could use the same shelf, cut and hung with an adjustable system.

So what you see here is the same shelf as before, just cut into two equal lengths.  This has been great storage not just for our laundry products, but also for cleaning products, pet care, extra paper towel, etc.  One of my favorite organization ideas is that I keep all my current cleaning products and tools in that black and white bag on the bottom shelf.  It's perfect to tote around the house on cleaning day or even just a quick trip to clean a bathroom.  Having everything at hand helps me to avoid procrastination.

We hung the adjustable track to the left side of the laundry room leaving space on the right for a hanging bar.  I actually took this bar from a closet that didn't need it (saving $ - yay!).  It has been great to have the larger space to hang dry some of our clothing.  Plus, it's perfect to hang blankets or table cloths right over the bar.  I also added a utility hook to hold our mop and swiffer, some bags, etc.  My Little Squirt (just 3 years old) has the big job of sweeping the kitchen for me every day.  He loves using the swiffer.  And he can't really go wrong with it.  Sometimes he goes until it runs out of power and needs to recharge, other times he's done in one minute.  But doing it daily he's at least helping out a little bit and he feels like such a big boy, too!   And he can even get the swiffer down and hang it back up by himself on this hook.

There you have my laundry room re-organization.  I hope you were able to find a few ideas that work for you!
Happy Organizing!
