The Jellybean Prayer for Easter

This is a repost of an Easter project we did last year.  With Easter quickly approaching - only about 3 more weeks! - I thought it was a great time to revisit this great activity.

Original Post: 3/27/12
Our first Easter project finally took place.  And it's definitely one of my favorites!  The fact that jellybeans are involved might sway me a bit toward this project.  However, it's really how the jellybeans are used to share the message of Easter.

The Jellybean Prayer
Red is for the blood He gave
Green is for the grass He made
Yellow is for the sun so bright
Orange is for the edge of night
Black is for the sins we made
White is for the grace He gave
Purple is for His hour of sorrow
Pink is for our new tomorrow
A Bag full of jellybeans
Colorful and sweet
Is a prayer
Is a promise
Is a friend's small treat

First we read through the poem.  Then I passed out a small bowl of jellybeans to each of them.  We went through the poem again, more slowly this time eating the jellybean color by color as the poem said them.  And we talked about each line and what it meant.  (This gave them time to chew, chew, chew!)

Then we used ink pads and our fingerprints to make jellybean shapes in all the colors listed in the poem.  I gave them each a damp paper towel to wipe between colors.  I couldn't find a black ink pad around here and I skipped white since our paper was white, but we did all the rest of the colors.

I was impressed with how well they did.  I got to just sit back, take pictures and eat jellybeans!
(It really helped that my hubby was there to work with our youngest!)

We cut out the jellybean shape and glued it onto a jellybean color of their choice.  See pic above.  Didn't they turn out adorable?!

Happy Easter!

  2. Love it! I pinned it too! Gotta get going on some Easter activities for my kids, although I don't really know if it will happen this year. Things have been crazy around here lately!

    1. Thanks, Jenn! It certainly is a quick activity and not incredible messy. So, hopefully you can squeeze it in! Either way, have a great Easter!
